Tata Group's founder Jamshedji Tata: A True visionary and pioneer industrialist of India for past, present and future

             The river is a primitive, resounding and flowing element of nature. Due to its continuous flow, many aquatic animals in its belly as well as human colonies, animals and creatures live on its shores. Going along this stream, many tributaries join the river, which increases the water storage & expands the river. Many mountain valleys and obstacles like rocks crosses and finally gets to the vast ocean. The source of river is important as the ocean or the river that flows with a large body of water.

 

           Similarly, in today's industrialized world ocean means Tata Group which is one of the leading group in Indian in the field of chemicals, steel, automobile, IT, telecommunications, electronics, retail, energy, tea, airlines & hospitality. The group's operations are spread across 80 countries across 6 continents. This is India's most prestigious industry that serves all over the world, has a good reputation and is trusted. Tata Group is having market capitalization of $242 billion as per report of 31 March 2021. Through this group, many organizations are making significant contributions in the developments of research, educational, culture and sports in our country. The Tata trust's chairman Ratan Tata had announced a grant of Rs.500 crore to the central government of India for various measures to overcome the Covid-19 outbreak that started in 2020. Tata Sons immediately declared an additional Rs.1000 crore.






              The main source of this industrial ocean is the late Jamshedji Tata means the founder of the Tata group. Tata is known as `father of Indian industry'. We all know, today, radical changes are taking place in automobile as well as transport sectors. According to Paris Agreement, the government of India has taken initiative to encourage the manufacturing of electric vehicles and utilizing in public sector to curb global warming and focus on greenhouse gas emissions. Tata Group is also seeking to establish a monopoly in electric vehicle manufacturing, building infrastructure and sale.




               The 2022 year of 21st century and the tenure of Jamshedji Tata span a period of over a century. Initially, Tata who worked in their father's business, had own business period from 1868 to 1904. He established Tata Company in 1868 pre-independent period of India. The infrastructure that Tata built at that time is very important for the development of industrialization across India and other countries in many sectors. There are many articles and books available about his personal life as well as his contribution to industrial, educational and social. But this blog mainly focusing on his visionary industrialization that helpful for EV segment of automobile sector.

His four main goals at that time was the same as his higher ideology. 

1) A steel company-

             Tata's first dream is alive in the form of Tata steel which is the Asia's first and India's largest steel company today. Previously Tata steel known as Tata Iron and Steel Company Ltd. or TISCO which is founded by Jamashedji Tata.  Tata steel has largest plant in Jamshedpur, Jharkhand established in August 26, 1907 by Dorabji Tata which operates now in 26 countries. Tata steel provides a steel contributing to 60-65% of the total raw material content in the average Indian vehicles.as per emerging need of leading automotive manufacturer.





2) A world-class educational institution

           Tata's second dream was established in 1909 and actively supported by him means Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore. This institute is now educating students in various field of science, engineering and technology from under graduation to post graduation. Now this is locally known as Tata Institute.

3) A unique hotel-

              Once Tata's entry into the Watson's Hotel was treated with contempt by British as this hotel was only for Europeans not for Indians. So he decided to start a unique hotel. Firstly, he established Indian Hotels Company Ltd (IHCL) in 1899. Then Taj Hotel was inaugurated on December 3, 1903 at the Colaba Waterfront in Mumbai. At that time, it was the only hotel in India to have its own electricity. Today IHCL is having more than 196 hotels spread across 12 countries of 4 continents with 20,000 rooms.

4) A Hydro-electric power generation company-

            Jamshedji Tata's this dream is now mainly playing important role in development of country. Tata Power Ltd is now largest integrated power company of India which generate, transmit and distribute electricity all over India. This company was founded in 1910 by Sir Dorabji Tata with name Tata Hydroelectric Power Supply Company. Today Tata power operates in India, Singapore, Indonesia, South Africa and Bhutan. Today Tata Power is having thermal power stations. Hydro stations, wind farms, flue gas desulphurization for pollution control and solar power plants.

             Tata Power is largest renewable power company in India providing energy to 11 states of India. Tata Power also completed a 1,000 EV charging station installation across cities. It collaborates with Apollo Tyres for building infrastructure of EV charging stations across the cities. Indian Hotels Company (IHCL) South Asia's largest hospitality company and Tata Power came together to sign solar energy Power Purchase Agreement (PPA). With this, Tata power has to set up EV charging stations at over 30 of its villas and heritage bungalows across 11 destinations for Ames Stays and Trails of Indian Hotels.

*Tata Motors-

            This was not a part of dream of Jamshedji Tata but Tata motors was established by his next family member J.R.D. Tata in 1945 Today Tata Motors is an Indian multinational automotive manufacturing company. It produces passenger cars, trucks, SUVs, vans, buses, coaches, luxury cars, sports cars, construction equipment etc. Earlier company known as Tata Engineering and Locomotive Company (TELCO). Tata motors having subsidiaries companies like Tata Daewoo, Jaguar Land Rover, Tata Technologies, Tata Hispano, and Tata Hitachi Construction Company etc. Tata passenger Electric Mobility Ltd.

        Tata motors established subsidiary firm Tata passenger Electric Mobility Ltd. with 100% investment to design, manufacture and develop electric vehicle and hybrid electric vehicles for passengers. Initially Tata motors incorporates with ₹ 700cr capital in this segment. As per news, officially announcement coming out that Tata Motors has plans to invest ₹.15000 Cr in EV segment over next five years. In last quarter of financial year Tata Motors introduced 10 vehicle model in EV segment like nexon, punch, harrier, & altroz. Tata Nexon is fastest selling electric vehicle in India in last quarter.


*Tata chemicals-

             This company is subsidiary of Tata group which established in on 23 January 1939 by J.R.D. Tata. It operating in research, manufacturing and selling the products that are useful for chemicals, crop protections and various scientific products. It has 13 plants across the world including India, UK, United States, and Kenya. Tata salt, Tata Sampan, Tata NQ various crop protections and seeds that are related to human lifestyle. Also with these, it provides various acids, Li-ion battery packs and recycling spent of Li-ion batteries for automobile as well as other sectors.
